Awarded Best Teamwork

Members of the Cyber Security Society competed in the national Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge, an invitation-only challenge. This competition is designed as a strategic policy competition with the scenario of the UK’s critical national infrastructure (CNI) falling victim to a cyber security attack. The competition involved 17 university teams across the UK and was held at the BT Tower in London for two days.

Teams took the role as senior advisers to government and industry leaders in responding to a complex escalating cyber-attack with consequences impacting at both a national and international scale. Technical, strategic and legal knowledge was needed to analyse the risks, threats and political impacts in order to then provide effective mitigations, which were documented to a UK government response policy. This policy was subsequently presented to a panel of industry leaders & experts to be questioned upon the policy’s validity and effectiveness.

Bournemouth University’s (BU) team consisted of Ashley Kenway, Duncan Ki-Aries, Flynn Acworth and Oscar N. BU’s team successfully reached the semi-finalists and won the Best Teamwork – which included a cruise on a yacht – from Andy Bates, Executive Director of Global Cyber Alliance and former CTO at Verizon EMEA.
